Overview

Effectively managing and safely handling medication is crucial to the health and wellbeing of individuals within the healthcare, social care, schools and public services sectors. This course is aimed at anyone who administers medication as part of their job.

Course Objectives

This half day course is designed to improve and promote understanding of safe medicine handling and meets the national Minimum Standards and fulfils regulatory guidelines for administration of Medication.

Agenda

  • Understand the legislation that affects the administration of medicines
  • The 7 rights of medication administration
  • Describe how medication should be stored and recorded
  • Understand the different types of medication and how they work
  • Follow protocols and policies when receiving, storing and recording medicines
  • Describe common adverse reactions to medication
  • Understand the differences in protocols between various healthcare provisions
