Overview

A large number of individuals within health and social care settings do not have their nutrition and hydration needs adequately met on a daily basis. The intake of sufficient fluid and nutrition is fundamental to good health and well-being. It is imperative that all staff who work within a health and social care setting are able to identify where issues could arise.

Course Objectives

This half day course describes the importance of hydration, signs of dehydration and ways to support and promote hydration with individuals. It aims to raise awareness of common barriers, best practices and the importance of record keeping within various settings.

Agenda

  • Introduction to healthy eating and poor nutrition
  • Meal time problems and how to problem solve
  • Healthy eating recommendations and different dietary requirements and conditions
  • The function of vitamins and problems caused by deficiency
  • MUST tool ( Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool )
  • Signs and symptoms of dehydration
  • Best practice and guidelines
