Prevent Awareness

The aim of Prevent is to reduce the threat of terrorism by stopping people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This Preventing Radicalisation and Extremism course gives you a clear and concise overview of the Prevent duty and the UK's Counter-Terrorism legislation currently in place, and can support staff in understanding their role in safeguarding others in the context of the Prevent Duty.

Introduction to the Prevent Duty

In this module you will learn to:

  • Understand the current UK threat level for terrorism
  • Understand who and what is involved in the UK's Contest Counter Terrorism Strategy

Recent Examples of Terrorism

In this module you will learn to:

  • Understand the definition of the term 'Terrorism' 
  • Understand the history of terrorism in the UK 
  • Look at recent examples of terrorism in the UK 

Extremism, Radicalisation and Channel

In this module you will learn to:

  • Understand and define 'Channel'
  • Define Extremism
  • Define Radicalisation
  • Understand what constitutes 'British Values' 

Vulnerabilities to radicalisation and the associated risk

In this module you will learn to:

  • Understand and define vulnerabilities to radicalisation 
  • Identify indicators of radicalisation in individuals 

Your responsibilities in Prevent

In this module you will learn to:

  • Understand your responsibilities under the Prevent Strategy 
  • Understand what happens if a referral is made
  • Look at current referral statistics to the Channel Programme
